Boca Raton Championship, Champions Tour, Florida.
The Boca Raton Championship is finished and a great champ was crowned with Mark Calcavecchia. It was a blustery Sunday and made scoring very difficult. It was tough to get the ball close to the hole in the windy conditions, so birdies didn't come easy. With a final round in 73 strokes and level par for tournament, finishing 53, it is not what I came for. I played as good from tee to green as I have played for several years. I was in great control of my long game and it was a lot of fun to play. I had SO many birdie chances the first two rounds, but the putter was not in great form. The putts slipped by the hole and I averaged 32 putts per round this week. Not good enough to compete with the legends of the game, but I had a blast playing this week. I elevated my long game to a new high, the changes coach Nyholm and I have agreed on, are working. :) Gripping the club lighter, using a stronger grip, laying the club off on my backswing and starting the downswing with my hips has given me a new push in the right direction. So lots of things to work on in the coming weeks.
I had a quick bite to eat after the final round and then drove 2 hours to the west coast to prepare for the next qualifier tomorrow at The Forest Country Club in Fort Myers. It is a qualifier for the tournament in Naples this coming weekend. So no time to rest, tomorrow will be my 9th round in 9 days. I will have to get up early and grab a cart and ride around the golf course to see it. Couldn't play a practice round, so the next best thing is to see it before I tee off 10:20. We are playing for 4 spots again and I am looking forward to the challenge, go go birdies :).
Fun to play :)
