Catching up in Wales.

Playing catch up in Wales.

Let me be up front with this, the Speedy Services Wales Senior Open never turned out the way I wanted. I was happy with the result in the end, but it was tough going.

I had a really bad start in the tournament. In very difficult conditions on the first 4 holes in the first round I started the day with a double bogey on the very first hole. I then double bogied the 8th and shot 5 over par on the front nine holes of the tournament. Not good.  From then on and until Sunday afternoon, it was all playing catch up with the front of the field.

I never caught up with the front, but I advanced from 42nd after the first round and finished tied 14th for the tournament. I played well this week, but didn’t manage to make the putts, especially in the second round. The wind blew extremely hard and it made it very difficult to stand still with the long putter. I missed a lot of putts from 5 to 8 feet in the second round. I putted better in the final round and with rounds of 74 – 74 -71 for a total of six over par, I finished 14th.

It was a difficult week with the bad weather, but also mentally tough after the bad first nine in the tournament. I was never relaxed and didn’t have enough patience. Sorry to my very well organized caddie Jackie, if I showed a bit of a temperament at times, it was a result of not getting the result I so badly wanted. ☺ ☺ ☺

Royal Porthcawl is and impressive links course, and I really enjoyed the course and the scenery. I can’t wait to come back for next years British Senior Open, which will be played at this course. It can only be a success☺.

Next tournament will be on the Ecco Tour. A matchplay tournament on Stensballegård starting 26/6.

Until then, birdies.

Steen.
