European Tour Properties Senior Classic.
European Tour Properties Senior Classic, Staysure Tour, Lighthouse Golf and Spa Resort, Bulgaria.
The second edition of the European Tour Properties Senior Classic is finished with a Swedish winner this time Magnus P Atlevi. Congratulations Magnus. Magnus motto for the week worked, “work less – achieve more” .
We played at an Ian Woosnam designed course in Bulgaria, and it got a lot of positive feedback from the Staysure Tour players. With a mix of very windy to almost dead calm, we saw every aspect of how the course can vary in difficulty.
I played well all week. I hit the ball great the first round and very well the next two rounds. Shot 71 – 68 – 69 to finish at 5 under par and tied 13th. Not a great result compared to how I hit the ball this week. I only made one bogey during the 54 holes and that came on my 10th hole in the first round. So 44 holes without a bogey is great in its own way. Another good thing about the week, I eliminated all the silly mistakes I have been making most of the year. I took a lot of good decisions and that made it much easier to stay out of trouble.
My caddie Gordon and I really struggled to read the greens and I also had a difficult time with the pace. The grainy greens got the best of me and I only made two putts from 15 feet all week and missed a ton of putts from 6 to 12 feet. Alone in the first round I counted 10 missed putts from this range. Obviously, very very frustrating and it became extremely difficult to believe I would make a putt. I hit so many good putts in the final round, just lipping out, or in any other way imaginable, missing the hole. A lot had to do with the reading of the greens, because I was very happy with the strike on the ball in the final round.
I will now focus on taking this reliable swing with me to Scotland next week and stay with the little adjustment on my putting, moving the ball further away from me. The ball is outside my eyeline but I feel more comfortable with this. It feels like I will take the putter a little inside and swing the putter head more towards the hole. This is how I always swing the long putter the best way. We might get windy conditions next week in Scotland and it can be difficult to do this change, but time will tell if it works.
Lots of golfing greetings,
