Italian Senior Open, Villaverde Resort, Staysure Tour.

The Italian Senior Open, Villaverde Resort, Udine, Staysure Tour.

This is the real start of the season for me, it took a long time to arrive. I am delighted it is finally here and that means a busy summer on the golf courses around Europe.

After I played in Jordan on the Staysure Tour in the beginning of April, I took some time off to make sure I didn’t play too much before the Staysure Tour started in Europe. I have been enjoying Florida, working out and training for Ironman Copenhagen August 18. I picked up the clubs again in the beginning of May and started the lead up to the Italian Senior Open. It has been a good lead up with tournament wins on the West Florida Golf Tour in Tampa and the Sunbelt Tour in Georgia. I was close to getting a qualification spot in the US Senior Open but in the end missed it by 2 shots.

I am all geared up for the summer and mentally in a great state of mind. I am relaxed, positive and happy to be back on course. It really showed this week in Italy. I had a bad start to the tournament but stayed very relaxed and up beat during the first round. It was a great feeling walking away from a round in 75 shots and not feeling down. I played really good in the second round and it could have been a low round but turned out to be a two under score of 70. I made good progress with my swing by narrowing my stance and get my legs working more for me. The final day gave me another round of 70 and that meant a 1 under par total and tied 22 for the tournament. I am happy and satisfied with this result. I didn’t play well the last day, missing a lot of fairways in the trees but kept a cool head and worked my way to a good score.

I have found my putting touch again and is very happy and confident over the putter. By adding the line on the ball and lining the ball up with the line, I just have to trust the line and focus on the stroke. I have moved my right hand, so my thumb is under the shaft and the other four fingers are on top. It locks the putter shaft in and feels great. I putted well all 3 rounds and that is really good news. If the putts don’t drop you can’t shoot low.

Next tournament will be the Scandinavian Pro-am on Monday and then on to France for next weeks Arras Senior Open. A new tournament on the Staysure Tour and hosted by Jean Van De Velde. Looking forward to some practice and get ready for these two events.

Lastly, Thanks to Louisa for being an excellent caddie throughout the tournament. 

Happy summer golf to all,
