MCB Tour Championship 2017, Mauritius, European Senior Tour.

We arrived in Mauritius to a top trimmed golf course, the Legends at Belle Mare Plage. They have been improving the course, clubhouse and facilities over the last few years. Just as you think, they can’t do it any better, they come up with some great improvements. Well done to all, we really enjoy these improvements and the hospitality in Mauritius.

Not having played tournament golf since the middle of October, I was trying to squeeze everything possible out of the two pro am days prior to the tournament. I was happy with my game and felt prepared. A couple of early three putts got me 3 over par after five holes and it was all uphill. I stayed cool and played the rest of the holes in 4 under, to finish with a satisfying 71. The next two rounds tested my patience on the greens. I played really well at times, but the putter remained cold. I returned two rounds of 72 to shoot one under par for the tournament and finish tied 36. Not what I came to Mauritius for, and of course disappointing. I lost one spot on the order of merit, and finished 25th this year. That is 3 spots forward from 2016, but also the competition is SO much stronger this year. We have had a lot of very good players join the tour the last years, f.eks. Jarmo Sandelin, Philip Price, Paul Broadhurst, Paul McGinley, Peter Baker, Peter Lonard, etc. It has incresed the competitive edge on the tour tremendously. The scoring this week was amazing, with the winner Thaworn Wiratchant shooting 23 under par for 54 holes, we just have to bow and say CONGRATULATIONS to Thaworn, that is incredible.

I am now on the plane from Mauritius to Denmark to spent Christmas with family and friends. I am certainly looking forward to a break from golf. It has been an ok year, but not a great year. I need to lift my putting to a new level in 2018 to reach my goals of winning on Tour again. Good putting is so crucial mentally and it raises the rest of the game to a different level. I will look to find an alternative way of putting in 2018, in my perspective, I have everything to gain.

I will be back with some more news about the upcoming season once we get in to January. Meanwhile I want to thank all the people in various countries that follow me, support me and give me comforting emails when things are not great. I am SO happy you are out there and your support means a lot to me. ☺ ☺ ☺

THANK YOU.

Lots of warm Holiday wishes,

Steen.
