Russian Open (Senior), Staysure Tour, Moscow, Russia.
I enjoyed a week at home in hot Florida and spending time with my wife and daughter. It is amazing how quickly a week goes by when you are having fun! I used some of the weekend to watch and study the players playing the last major of the year, the PGA Championship at Bellerive. I must say, I had great fun watching Tiger fighting his way through the last round and also see Brooks Koepka’s coolness beat the whole field in the end. Especially, the even temperament of Koepka, impressed me. He wasn’t put off by anything, something I can learn a lot from at the moment. It seemed like he was out playing a Sunday fourball with his best friends, just having fun and enjoying it. A TRUE champion and very impressive.
I was cool most of the week in Russia and is making good progress on the mental side. I still lack putting a good score on the board. I am playing much better than I am scoring. I played really good in the final round but couldn’t turn it in to a great score, even though I advanced 16 places in the final round. I shot 73 – 74 – 70 to finish one over and 19th for the tournament.
The positives are:
I am playing with more patience.
Swinging the club better in the final round.
The work I have done on my bunker game is working well.
Putting is going in the right direction.
Made some crucial putts in the final round.
Had it four under in the final round and close to get several more under par.
I have a couple of days off from golf now. Since I am on a five week tournament schedule I have decided to take some time off between tournaments. I want the mini break to make sure I get away and restitute completely physically and mentally before I start another tournament. Next week will be Hanbury Manor in England and it starts on Friday August 24.
Happy summer golf,
