SSE Enterprise Wales Senior Open, round 1 Celtic Manor, European Senior Tour.

The 2016 European Senior Tour has started in Wales on a sunny day with a good breeze. The Roman Road course at the Celtic Manor is a very tricky challenge. This year the greens are very firm and as always very undulated. It is extremely difficult to get the ball close to the holes on the approach shots. Once on the green, you really have to be below the hole, because you can get some treacherous putts.

I didn't have a great warm up session today. I couldn't get the feel of my left side dominating my swing. As good as it felt yesterday, it was not to be found during my warm up today. I managed a decent start with pars and then I made a couple of putts for birdies to continue the good run from yesterday. I shot three under on the first nine (back nine) this morning and came in with a total of 6 under after yesterdays 9 holes in 3 under. I was leading by 1 shot and believed that I would find the good swing again on the final 18 holes.

The Sunbelt Tour is now in Cullman, Alabama. It is a 10 hour drive from our house in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. I decided to drive up and play this 54 tournament to make sure I play tournament golf leading up to my start on the European Senior Tour in the beginning of June.

I am back on the golf course after some days off and is enjoying being back. I went to coach Gregor Jamieson in Orlando on Friday for a lesson and we worked on my short game set up and my hip rotation in my swing. I spent the last days practicing these two issues and also played a couple of tournaments on the West Florida Golf Tour. I played better than I scored in Mondays tournament, shooting 75, but today I scored better than I played shooting 69. We were two guys on 69 on the tough Tampa Palms Country Club.

We had a perfect day for golf at Country Club of the South in Alpharetta, Georgia. This is one of the most beautiful courses I have played, but also a very tough course. Today was ideal conditions and the course didn't play long. We had a lot of short irons in to difficult pin placements, so accuracy was really important.

Got some revenge on the course today. Shot 71 to finish tied 71st for the tournament. Not what I looked for at the start of the week, but that's golf. I am actually happy with the way I hit the ball all 3 rounds. It wasn't great but it was good enough to shoot some good scores.

I got back to good putting in the final round, made everything from 8 feet and in and also a couple of other putts. It was a great feeling to get the putting back, and good to finish with a sub par round.

QUALIFIED! Shot 68 and finished tied 3rd to get one of the 5 spots for the tournament.

I am very relieved and happy to make it in to the tournament. I have been playing well over the last few weeks and it is no surprise I played well today, but you never know how it goes in a one day qualifying.
