Champions Tour Qualifying stage 1, round 1, Houston Texas.

We had a very challenging day in Houston with the weather front hitting us around 10 a:m. I hit off on the 10th tee at 8:50 in wind and rain. It was warm around 77 degrees, but I still wore my raingear. Played well and made a couple of putts in the first 4 holes getting it to two under par. Hit my driver in the middle of the fairway on 14, the front hit us and the whistle blew, so we headed for the clubhouse.

It is that time of year, Qualifying School time!

I am in Houston Texas for the next 5 days trying to get through stage 1 of the Champions Tour qualifying and make it to the Final Qualifying in Scottsdale in the beginning of December.

I have played a couple of one day tournaments on West Florida Golf Tour after I got back from tournament golf in California. I have played well and is happy with my game.

The change I made yesterday on the range worked today. A straighter right arm tucked into the right side of the chest got me turning my upper body on the take away. It gave me a better contact with the ball and the bad shots were a lot better today. I shot 66 and moved from 8 to tied 3rd. Had the best score of the day and is very pleased I solved my swing problems.

Another day with perfect conditions at Winter Haven Country Club in Florida. I didn't take advantage of the good conditions. Finished the day with an even par 72 shots and is actually satisfied with the score, because I did not hit the ball well at any time today. I really struggled with the swing all 18 holes. I have no rhythm in my swing and it feels a little like hit and hope every time. I have been trying to stay still over the ball and I think this has gotten me in a position where I don't turn my upper body, because I am trying to use as little movement over the ball as possible.

Except for the fog, which delayed the start by 1 hour and 15 minutes, it was a picture perfect day in Winter Haven. A beautiful course next to a big lake and in great condition. A treelined course and fun to play.

It wasn't a great start to the tournament for me. I shot 71, one under par and made too many mistakes today. I didn't drive the ball well and found myself in the trees a couple of times. My sense of speed on the greens was off today and I didn't make the putts I should have.

As Arnold Schwazenegger said: "I will be back", and I will :)

I didn't have a good day on the course or a good practice yesterday. Something was wrong and I couldn't put a finger on it. I tried to fix it on the range, but it was impossible to hit balls because the range balls were so bad. Every ball I hit sliced and then hooked because all the dimples on the balls were gone. Instead of spending time on the range with the bad balls I went on the course and hit a lot of shots and played 25 holes. It felt like I was moving a lot over the ball and couldn't get solid contact.

We were informed before the day started that more than 100 players competed for 4 spots to get in to the Event Qualifier on Monday. When I got to the course this morning one more spot was added, so the top 5 scores would go on. We all started off two tees and it was a very looong day on the course. With so many players on course at the same time we knew play would be desperately slow. It so happen, that my two playing partners did not show up and I they had to move somebody from another group to play with me.

I traveled to Texas yesterday to play a practice round before todays pre qualifier event at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas. Actually, I went to high school in Kerrville and is happy to be back in a town with a lot of good memories.

I left Sarasota at 4 o'clock yesterday morning to get 18 holes of practice in and finish at sun down in Kerrville. It was a good day on the course and I built on how I played last week in France. We were 45 players playing for 5 spots for next Tuesdays final Event qualifier for the San Antonio Champions Tour tournament.

We knew already Friday the tournament would only be 36 holes, so today was the final round. I was hitting balls at 7:30, warming up for my tee time at 9:00 a:m. Suddenly I got a text message saying the overnight rain had flooded the course and a new draw had been put in to effect. My new tee times was 10:50 off the 10th tee. So I spent lots of time on the range getting ready for todays round.
