Better day on the course today with a four under par 67. I made swing improvements today, focusing on keeping my wrists firm on the start of  my back swing. This helps me turn my upper body more and keeps the take away nice and smooth. I had lots of good chances on the front nine to make birdies but didn't make enough putts. I suddenly found some putting on the back nine, making good putts to save par on several occasions.

Coral Spings Senior Open final round, Sunbelt Tour, Florida, USA

The final round of Coral Springs Senior Classic was one step forward and two steps backward. I didn’t play well and with two double bogeys  on the 3rd and the 11th it was an uphill struggle.

I shot 74, two over par and finished 3rd in the tournament. With rounds of 70-73-74 it was not my best tournament. The tournament was won convincingly by Marco Dawson in 9 under par, that is some score in the windy and difficult conditions all 3 days.

It was a bit of a rollercoaster today. I played very well on the front nine and I felt in control until I failed to get up and down from the front of the green on 9 and made bogey. A bad 8 iron and chip on the next hole rocked the boat and suddenly two bogeys in a row. Suddenly I was really struggling with the swing, I was getting the club too much behind myself again and didn't make good contact with the ball.

I doesn't happen often but I had a scorecard without 5's on it. Only 4's and 3'3. I made a putt on the last hole from 25 feet for an eagle and turned a frustrating day in to a good round. Why frustrating, because I hadn't made one putt all day. I made 3 birdies on the par fives and they were all tap ins. Then finally I made a good putt on the last and it got me to 4 under par and I have now advanced to 5th place, four shots after the leader.

Tomorrow will be my first competitive round of 2014. I am playing a tournament in Portugal at Pinheiros Altos, a good course and a good test of golf.

It is a pretty strong field with a lot of good senior players in the tournament. I am playing with the winner of the order of merit on the European Senior Tour tomorrow Paul Wesselingh. Other notables in the field are Simon Brown, Miguel Martin, Ronan Rafferty, etc.

I am writing from a very cold and wet Amsterdam hotel room. It has rained all day and it was only 6 degrees when we teed off this morning. The rain never let up once during the day and the tees weren't put forward. The course played long, because the ball did not fly very far today. Tough course and extremely tough conditions. On top of that it took 6 hours to play the round because we are two pros playing each with an amateur partner.
